Francis Joseph Alger

Alger, Francis Joseph was born in Newport, and is the eldest son of the late Rowland Alger, who, in his day, was one of the leading ironmongers of the town. He was educated at the Wesleyan College, Taunton, and was afterwards apprenticed to the ironmongery business in Gloucester. Is in partnership with his brother, Mr. T. E. Alger, under the style of R. Alger & Sons. The energies of the firm are devoted to the electrical, heating and sanitary engineering business, their connection covering practically the whole country. Mr. Alger has charge of the commercial department of the undertaking. Is a member of the Council of the Newport Chamber of Commerce and of the committee of the Newport Ratepayers' Association. Married in 1899 to Miss Graves, daughter of S. Graves, of St. Bees, and is the father of one son and two daughters. Is a Wesleyan Methodist. Address: 160 Dock Street. Telephone: 3505.
